Azealia Banks - Bio
Multi-talented and easy on the eyes, Azealia Banks is a 26 year-old MC, singer-songwriter, and actress. Raised in Harlem, she performed as a child actor in an off-Broadway production with the Tada! Youth Theater, and attended the famed La Guardia High School of Performing Arts. She began releasing music through MySpace in 2008, and was signed to XL Recordings at the age of 17. Her first single, “212,” earned her a record deal with Interscope, as well as rave reviews from Pitchfork, the BBC, and the NME.
Her debut album, “Broke With Expensive Taste,” was released in 2014, followed by a mixtape in 2016, “Slay-Z,” and a demo song for Rihanna, “La Dominadora.” Azealia’s second album, “Business & Pleasure,” is scheduled for release in 2018. In the meantime, she is making a return to acting, taking the title role in the RZA-directed film “Coco.”
Azealia has graced the covers of Vibe, Paper, and Billboard, and was photographed for Playboy by Ellen Von Unwerth, becoming the first hip-hop artist to grace its pages. She has also collaborated with M∙A∙C cosmetics to create Yung Rapunxel, a limited-edition lipstick in a deep plum shade.
Outspoken and confident, Azaelia is socially and politically active, and has a strong social media presence. Whichever of her talents she is utilizing, this native New York polymath never gives less than her all.
